Well, here's my story.

Hey you guys. As you could see in my about me section on my blog, I'm Devin! I am a soon to be Pastry Arts student and I couldn't be more excited. I figured the best first post for this new blog would be a little background on what made me want to become a pastry chef, so here goes. (P.S. I'm telling you the short version because the long version could literally be a book haha)

I remember back when I was a little girl, I used to always tell my mom that I was going to be a baker one day. Yes, I told her I was going to be a "baker". Haha. I loved it. I loved going to local cupcake shops, watch all the cooking shows, and bake with my grandmother. Baking with my grandmother was one of my most favorite things to do. She taught me so many things. Going over to grandmas house to bake some cookies or a cake... That was my perfect Saturday.

All through middle school and high school, I dreamed of becoming a chef. I took culinary arts in High School. It was what I needed to do. But for some reason, it's not what I did when it was time for me to go to college. Why? I have no idea. I guess I was in some kind of denial that this is what I REALLY wanted to do. I guess it also had something to do with multiple people telling me that I needed to pick a career that I would actually get somewhere in life doing. (Whatever that means..)

I went to college and ended up getting an Associates in Business Administration. I struggled for so long trying to find a job that would allow me to settle down and be out on my own. However, this was and still is nearly impossible.

Then, tragedy struck my family. Back in November 2014, I lost my grandmother to a long battle of breast cancer. I lost my best friend. I lost my baking partner. I lost one of the most important people in my life. It affected me so much. I knew then that it was time to make my dream become a reality. It was time to go make my grandmother proud.

Here it is June 2015, and my dream is coming true. In August I am starting culinary school to become a pastry chef. I am one step closer to having the career I have always dreamed of. And to make things even better, I get to do it with one of the best people in the world watching over me.

I am more than excited to begin this journey and I am thrilled to be able to share it with you.

  1. I admire your determination to go after your passion, despite being struck by tragedy, barely a year ago. I’m happy to know that instead of driving to you to a downward spiral, those experiences helped you realized that it was about time to turn your dreams into reality. I’d like to congratulate you for getting in to a culinary school. I hope’s that just the beginning of more of your dreams coming true. Thanks for sharing, Devin! :)
